Get Your Brave On
“Don’t be afraid of your fears. They aren’t there to scare you. They’re there to let you know something is worth it.” ~ C. Joybell C.
Yesterday, I got my brave on with Canada’s longest zipline located in Whistler, BC.
I was terrified as I stepped up to the platform. I was fighting the fear that had been bubbling to the surface all morning. I don’t like heights and I am not an adrenaline junkie. I do however, like to push myself out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. But this adventure looked a lot scarier now, then when I booked it from the safety of my office chair.
As I stood on the edge of the platform, readying to launch myself into the open air, I had to make a hard choice. Keep moving forward with the group adventure, or give into the fear and go back down the mountain.
If I gave into the fear and stayed where I was- comfortable and clinging to old beliefs that I couldn’t do this, I knew I would feel regret. That was ringing loud and clear!
So with nothing but a web harness holding me to a line that spanned 500 meters across the treetops, I stepped off the platform and flew across the sky. It was exhilarating when I (finally) opened my eyes and surrendered to the experience. In the moment I felt so alive. So free and empowered!
As I stood on the landing tower waiting for the rest of our group to make the crossing, I realized that being brave isn’t about the big adventures.
True bravery is having the courage to choose something else for yourself despite the fear. Breaking old patterns and taking action to do something life altering is scary- even terrifying! But we can’t let fear keep us from living our heart’s desires.
This week, I saw a huge shift in a client when she opened up her heart and shared her dream. As she started talking about her vision, her energy instantly increased, her face glowed and her voice radiated with passion and excitement. It was evident that this dream was her soul’s purpose. When she told me she was putting her dream on the back burner for the next 20 years, waiting till after the kids grew up, I asked her how she thinks she will feel in five years if she doesn’t take action today. Tears welled up in her eyes at that thought. She was afraid to take the first step towards her dream, but realizing how she would feel if she didn’t, was enough to propel her to action.
Making the choice to take action in your life when your heart is calling you forward, despite the fear, is powerful. Yet, we are better women, wives, mothers, daughters, and friends when we choose to live a life in alignment with our dreams.
