Second Chance Cheekye Ranch

Second Chance Cheekye Ranch (SCCR) stands as a beacon of hope and compassion in Squamish, British Columbia. Skye and her herd are privileged to call this ranch their home.

Established in 2016 by Kris Latham, SCCR was born from a profound desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of both equines and humans alike. With unwavering dedication from its founder and the support of a dedicated community of animal-loving volunteers, SCCR is on a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses in need.

More than 25,000 horses are slaughtered in Canada annually with most of the meat being exported for human consumption. SCCR aims to save as many as they can from that fate.Nestled alongside the serene Cheakamus River, SCCR operates within the expansive Cheekye Ranch, spanning over 60 acres of lush coastal forest. Here, amidst nature’s embrace, SCCR thrives, offering a sanctuary for equine companions seeking a second chance at life.

My personal journey with SCCR began in the summer of July 2020. Through a series of serendipitous events, I rediscovered my childhood passion for horses. The moment I set foot on the ranch and witnessed the horses grazing freely, surrounded by the majestical coastal mountains, I felt a profound sense of peace and joy stirring deep within my soul.

Proceeds from the sales of our children’s book and the Buddha in the Barn Meditation Circles are donated to support the vital work of the ranch. Discover more about SCCR’s impactful initiatives and how you can volunteer to make a lasting difference in the lives of the horses and donkeys here.
