Start Your Day Centered & Peaceful with 3 Small Shifts
“How you wake up each day and your morning routine (or lack thereof) dramatically affects your levels of success in every single area of your life.”
~ Hal Elrod
Try shifting your morning routine if you want to make changes in your life. How we start our day affects our well-being throughout the rest of our waking hours. Think about the last time you woke up late for work and how you spent the entire day feeling unsettled and stressed.
Having a few small morning rituals that connect you to your soul self will expand your sense of peace and happiness throughout the rest of the day. Here are three simple shifts that are easily incorporated to your morning routine to start your day with greater calm and joy.
- Don’t reach for your phone the moment your eyes flutter open. Leave Facebook, Instagram, emails and the news for at least 30 minutes after waking. Give yourself a little space to feel gratitude for another day instead of spiraling down into despair with a negative news story or unworthiness comparing your life to others on social media. Leaving your phone outside your bedroom will help break the habit of reaching for it.
- Before you get out of bed, take three deep conscious belly breaths. Soak in the calm you create within by connecting to your breath. Pause here for a moment and smile. Life is good!
- Take ten minutes to engage in any activity that nourishes your soul. Try reading an inspirational book, meditating, praying, journaling, doing a few yoga poses or just sitting and petting your dog.
I invite you to try just one of these shifts in the week ahead and notice how you feel. Do your days improve with the shift? DO you feel calmer and more centered? Can you expand your one morning ritual to include others?
Creating a new routine takes conscious effort and change takes time. With consistency, you will begin to feel more anchored and calm, and that’s a great place to start creating your dreams from.
