Shifting Your Mindset for More Happiness & Success
Are you living the life you were meant to live?
Do you feel there is a gap between where you are and where you want to be? If you feel there is more to life – a different career, a healthier life, a loving relationship but you haven’t made a move towards that dream, you may have a mental block or self-limiting belief holding you back from your potential.
Beliefs are adopted from our family, social conditioning and past experiences. They are mostly subconscious and they are powerful. It is your subconscious beliefs that affect what you think, feel and whether or not you take action.
If there is an area of your life where you are unhappy, or where you can’t get any traction towards your goals, it’s likely that you have a limiting belief controlling your mindset. Because what we believe about our self and the world impacts the way we interact and experience the world.
To create different outcomes in your life you need to take back control of your mind. This requires a conscious shift to wake up and get off auto-pilot. When you consciously choose new beliefs you interrupt the subconscious programming. And with different thinking, you create different outcomes!
The good news is that your brain can be rewired for success through some simple tools. Let’s look at three powerful tools that will help you t shift from limiting beliefs that hold you back to empowering beliefs that propel you towards more happiness and success.
1. Cultivate Self-Awareness
Bringing your attention to your thinking is the first step in changing it. When we are on auto-pilot our subconscious mind takes over and we repeat patterns and behaviors. To change your behaviors you have to become aware of your thinking.
Look at the areas of your life where you are most dissatisfied. (Two areas we hold a lot of limiting beliefs are in terms of our relationships and wealth).
Start noticing what thoughts pass through your mind in a day. Are your thoughts positive or negative? How often do the negative thoughts surface? What thoughts start playing louder when you think of moving from your comfort zone?
Once you have identified your limiting beliefs ask yourself the following questions:
How does holding on to this belief protect me right now?
Does this belief help me to reach my goals?
If the belief no longer serves you it’s time to challenge it and adopt a new belief.
2. Challenging Your Limiting Beliefs
Once you are aware of the beliefs that are holding you back start challenging them. Most of the beliefs we hold aren’t truths. While many of our beliefs exist to keep us safe from pain, failure or disappointment, as an adult they no longer serve us and often become the blind spots that limit us.
Start poking holes in your beliefs.
If you can find just one exception to your belief, it is not truth but fiction. Look for evidence that your limiting beliefs are not true.
Example of a limiting belief might be:
“I’m too old to start my own business.”
Evidence that counters this: Julia Childs didn’t publish her first cookbook until the age of 50. Vera Wang was 40 when she entered the fashion industry.
Therefore, this belief is not a fact. It’s just a belief you have adopted as truth. Now go find evidence that pokes holes in each of your limiting beliefs!
3. Realign to New Beliefs
Once you have identified your limiting beliefs and challenged them, it’s time to shift them by aligning to new beliefs.
Start with the one belief that is the most dominant one for you.
Then ask yourself, “What would be a more empowering belief that will support me in creating the life I desire?”
Here is an example.
Using the limiting belief, “I am too old to start a new business” you could shift it to:
“I am at the perfect stage in my life to start a new business. I bring wisdom and experience my younger self didn’t have. The timing is perfect for me.”
Realign every limiting belief into a belief that will power you forward. Write the positive beliefs out and put them somewhere you can see them. Small steps create shifts!
Meditation is a powerful tool for awakening your consciousness and mastering your mindset. In the stillness you take on the role of an observer, witnessing your thoughts and taking back control of your mindset by training your mind to focus on what you want. These are just three ways to take back control and shift your mindset for more happiness and success.
